Administration  &  Systems

Transferable Skills

When I started to work in Arts Administration, I quickly realized that the skills I had cultivated as a woodworker were highly transferable. The more I grew as an administrator, the more I realized that woodworking is problem-solving in the 3D dimension. Whenever I plan a workshop, manage shops and staff, plan programming, or conduct committee work, I rely on my woodworking skills to help me prioritize and execute the work I do for organizations and myself.

Woodworking teaches you problem solving. It teaches you how to move backwards from a goal by creating a plan.
