Education  &  Teaching

Spoon Carving Workshops

Being an educator has become an essential part of my life and a facet of the community building that I engage in. I started woodworking in shop class in high school and haven't stopped since. My teacher was so supportive and showed me that I could use the materials, machines, and tools that felt intimidating to me. That teacher changed the trajectory of my life and was the reason I pursued a furniture making degree at the Maine College of Art. While at MECA, I had incredible professors who inspired and pushed me. They showed me what life could be like as an artist and the importance of sharing information so our field can continue so new generations of makers can emerge. When I started teaching, I wanted to make sure folks had a sliver of the support and encouragement I have received on my journey thus far. Working with tools is so empowering and is something anyone can do. Since starting teaching, I have introduced 417+ people to woodworking, and I continue to find joy in empowering others through making all the time!
